Job Summary
A Defects Estimator-Team Leader provides department-level leadership for reviewing service-generated defects and repair recommendations, preparing accurate quotations, and supporting the timely close-out of recommended works. The role ensures all estimates, recommendations, and customer communications are compliant, commercially sound, and aligned with relevant fire industry standards and Chubb requirements.
Key Responsibilities
•
Lead, develop, and scale a department of designers to support operational demands and future growth.
•
Recruit, onboard, coach, and evaluate design personnel to build a strong, accountable, and high-performing team.
•
Establish and maintain department workflows, quality standards, review
procedures, and documentation practices.
•
Manage team workload, capacity, and priorities to ensure timely completion of design deliverables.
•
Provide technical oversight for fire sprinkler layouts, hydraulic calculations, submittals, and coordination efforts.
•
Ensure design practices align with applicable codes and standards, including but not limited to NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, IBC, FM guidelines, and applicable state and local requirements.
•
Partner with project managers, operations leaders, and field teams to improve coordination, execution, and issue resolution.
•
Drive process improvement initiatives that increase consistency, productivity, communication, and design quality.
•
Support planning for staffing, software, training, and departmental resource needs.
•
Serve as the escalation point for complex technical issues, schedule conflicts, and interdepartmental coordination challenges.
•
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education
•
Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Engineering (or related technical field).
Experience
•
8 to 12 years of relevant experience in fire sprinkler system design, drafting, or fire protection layout.
•
Progressive experience in fire sprinkler design, design management, or related technical leadership roles.
•
Demonstrated success leading teams, developing talent, and building departmental structure, standards, and accountability.
•
Strong knowledge of fire protection codes and standards, including but not limited to NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, IBC, FM guidelines, and applicable state and local requirements.
•
Experience with AutoSprink, Revit, AutoCAD, or comparable design software.
•
Strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
•
Ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities, and cross-functional relationships effectively.
•
Experience improving workflows, quality standards, and operational processes preferred.
•
Relevant industry certifications and advanced credentials are preferred where required by the designated operating company or local jurisdiction.
