The Senior Legal Counsel for Chubb F& S ANZ plays a vital role in managing and mitigating legal risk across our operations. Provide expert legal advice to executive leadership and operational teams, draft and negotiate complex contracts, manage disputes/litigation claims, regulatory matters, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and industry standards. Serve as a strategic partner, proactively identifying legal challenges and offering pragmatic solutions that support business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Advisory: Provide sound, practical legal advice to leadership and operational teams on all areas impacting the business, including construction law, contract law, labor and employment law, health and safety, intellectual property, and data privacy.
  • Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements such as client and supplier contracts, subcontracts, NDAs, and service-level agreements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay current on applicable laws, statutory and regulatory requirements; develop and implement policies and training to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Dispute Management: Manage and resolve complex disputes and litigation—including construction disputes, insurance claims, and employment matters—liaising with external counsel where necessary.
  • Company Secretary: including corporate governance, company law, and statutory compliance, as well as the ability to support board and committee meetings through preparing documentation and maintaining accurate minutes.
  • Privacy Officer: ensure the organisation complies with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and relevant privacy laws, develops and reviews privacy policies, and manages privacy inquiries and breaches. Provide staff training on privacy matters, conduct privacy impact assessments, liaise with regulators, and maintain records of privacy compliance activities.
  • Ethics Officer: oversee ethics and compliance programs, train staff on key requirements, manage investigations and risk assessments, liaises with regulators, and promote a culture of integrity within the organisation.
  • Risk Management: Advise on risk exposure and mitigation strategies; review and maintain the risk register; review and update standard contract templates to align with changes in law and best practice.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop effective relationships with internal clients, senior management, and external advisors to support business needs and ensure consistent application of company standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process improvements and best practice sharing across the legal function and broader business.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor of Laws (LLB). Admission to practice law in NSW.
  • Experience: Minimum 8+ years’ post-qualification experience, including in-house legal roles.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong track record with construction contracts
    • Experience with regulatory and compliance issues
    • Litigation, claims management, and dispute resolution expertise
  • Other: Commercial acumen and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
