We're looking to add an Infrastructure Engineer to our team here at SMC in Nottingham. Providing a point of escalation for internal tickets, and answering telephone and email queries from other parts of the business you will proactively performing BAU maintenance and upgrades of the company IT systems, including vulnerability patching.
Being an experienced and time-served professional, you are expected to exhibit a high degree of attention to detail, and a methodical, analytical and strategic approach to tasks. You must be approachable and collaborative, with strong written and verbal communication skills, and a passion for continuous improvement. The ability to be self-sufficient and carry tasks through to completion is essential.

SALARY: Upto £35K
What you'll be doing –
– Creation and installation of new virtual and physical servers.
– Procurement and stock control of peripherals.
– Liaising with third party suppliers, and planning and supporting internal projects.
– Creation and maintenance of department documentation.
– Participation in on-call rota on a one-week-in-four basis outside of working hours, for which an additional allowance is paid. You will be provided with a company laptop and mobile phone for the purpose, which you will be expected to maintain.
– Assisting the IT Manager in his duties as required, and providing holiday/absence cover for him.

– Windows Server
– Powershell scripting
– Microsoft 365
– HyperV
– NAS and SAN
– Basic TCP/IP networking
You must also possess relevant industry-recognised qualifications, such as those from Microsoft, Cisco or CompTIA (verifiable certificates to be provided).
A full driving licence and your own transport are required, as you may be required to attend site in the event of a major outage or catastrophe.
Although this is not a hybrid role, there will be the opportunity to work from home at the IT Manager's discretion, after completion of probation.
Also beneficial;
– Debian/Ubuntu Linux
– Knowledge of the security industry and relevant standards
– DIY and Electronics experience (installing cabling and making repairs)
– SQL scripting or DBA experience
– Experience of virtual and physical backup methods.
